A Group Therapy Program for Couples: Integrating Satir’s Growth Model and the Non-Violent Communication Model

Abstract

|
A group therapy program for couples with deep marital discord was developed by integrating Virginia Satir’s Growth Model and the Non-Violent Communication Model, and the results of the program were evaluated qualitatively. Participant couples showed an improvement in self-esteem, fury, emotional communication, communication for problem-solving, and sexual intimacy. Five of the couples reported specific changes in their mind-set. The authors concluded that the program could be usefully employed with couples who, despite deep discord, are motivated to change.
